I know it can be TOUGH to get students to write, especially during spring when there's a lull in the year. The secret is videos paired with writing and discussion prompts. Which means Spring Video of the Day!
WHAT IS IT
The Spring Writing Prompts & Discussion Starters is a low-stress, low-prep way to get students writing and thinking about writing. There are short unique videos (that you won't find anywhere else – so students can't say they've already done it) to watch. Each video has 2-3 discussion starters AND 2-3 writing prompts. Everything is done for you and ready to use in Google Slides. You just have to display and go!
There are a bunch of spring topics covered, including rainy days, spring activities, spring holidays, and more! Each of the themed writing prompts and discussion starters directly correlates with the video, making it a great way to fully engage students and add in some seasonal fun!
HOW TO USE
The best part about the Spring Video of the Day is you can really use it however works best for you! If you're at the point of the year where your energy is feeling low…I've got you covered!
- Read the prompt – Choose the topic you are going to use and read the prompt. This will give students an opportunity to think about the prompt while watching the video.
- Watch the video – Watch the video and enjoy the unique video clips.
- Review the prompt – Restate the prompt and clarify or elaborate.
- Think time – The best teacher tip… quiet think time. You can even model out loud your thoughts so students can understand your thinking process.
- Write OR discuss – Give students the opportunity to write or discuss. Now that students have watched the video, they have a better grasp of the writing or discussion prompts. This is where students can feed off of each other's ideas and build their own.
