Bulletin boards are more than just classroom decor, they’re an opportunity to engage students, build a sense of community, and make learning fun! Incorporating seasonal themes and interactive pieces takes your bulletin boards to the next level.
DESIGN THE BULLETIN BOARD
Following seasons or holidays is a great way to tie in a bulletin board design to your classroom. Start with a base – a teacher tip is to use bulletin board paper that is cute and will last a long time. Add a simple border or two to make your bulletin board pop!
Bulletin board sets don't have to just be cute, they can also be meaningful. You can add bulletin boards in as part of a specific lesson or as a daily reminder of your classroom values, this board will make a lasting impression on your students.
It's easy to design a bulletin board. As silly as it sounds, a stapler that opens flat will make bulletin board designing SO MUCH EASIER!
MAKE IT MEANINGFUL
Seasonal boards add a touch of whimsy to your classroom while keeping things fresh and exciting. Think about themes that tie into holidays, seasons, or classroom events. For instance:
- January: Start a new year by focusing on goals with the New Year Bulletin Board.
- February: This February Bulletin Board focuses on a friendship bracelet design with a positive message to promote kindness, self-esteem, and a sense of community in your classroom. Teacher tip – use bulletin board hooks to tie string across your bulletin board to make a super easy way to display your bulletin board!
- March: The St. Patrick's Bulletin Board is a great reminder about focusing on the positive pieces of our classroom with the quote “Our Class is Lucky Because…”. Or focus on Growth Mindset which is perfect during testing season!
- April: The Spring Bulletin Board focuses on embracing and celebrating the unique qualities of each student. April can be a busy month – slowing down to enjoy your class can help make the stretch to summer break a little easier.
- May: One of everyone's favorites – the May Bulletin Board – which focuses on classroom memories. Add photos from throughout the year, reflect on how much growth your students have made and celebrate making it through another year!
- Back to School: The Back to School Bulletin Board is SO cute! It is welcoming, eye-catching and fun!
- Fall: The Fall Bulletin Board focuses on kindness. This is the perfect time to focus on kindness since the newness of school has worn off. What better way to focus on kindness than with a student-centered bulletin board?!
- Winter: Wrap up the calendar year with a Winter Bulletin Board that is sure to brighten your room!
ADD A STUDENT COMPONENT
Students are more likely to engage with bulletin boards when they have a hand in creating them. They feel a sense of ownership and LOVE seeing their personal touch added to bulletin boards. Students feel more confident and valued. This is such a simple way to highlight diversity and focus on what makes your class special each year.
Luckily, adding student input is SUPER easy! Each monthly bulletin board offers a piece of student input. Simple things like writing goals, adding their names to templates or simple writing prompts. Even better…the templates are all made for you! All you have to do is print the bulletin board pieces! After you make the bulletin board once, you will have it to use year after year!
Bulletin boards can add so much to your classroom!
