I am so excited it is March yall! I love spring time weather, and I love doing all sorts of spring themed things in my classroom! Here are a few quick things we are doing this month! (stay tuned for a freebie!!)
As some of you may know, I love bringing writing into my classroom ALL the time. My students love writing from different writing prompts each season & holiday! I use these a variety of ways. I use them in stations a lot. I sometimes project them on my document camera for everyone to use the same prompt. my students really enjoy them! See them here!
One of my favorite authors is Patricia Palacco. She has an adorable book called, Fiona's Lace. It is the sweetest story about working hard, moving to America, and how family is the MOST important thing. I love a story that teaches academics as well as other things my students desperately need to learn. We will be using this book to work on many skills in our classroom this month. We will work on problem and solution, writing, context clues. There are many examples of problems and solutions in this story. Grab a FREE flipbook HERE!
I thought my students would love trying to figure out the Irish Lingo meanings from the story…what better way to practice using our context clues! Using context clues is a tough concept for some of my third graders, but I KNOW they will get a kick out of trying to figure out the meaning of words like wee, lass, and frocks!
I will also have them make connections wth the story by doing some writing in our Daily 5 stations.
St. Patty's Day is a fun part of March! I wanted to allow my students to enjoy the Holiday, while still making it meaningful to their learning. See this book companion in my shop here!
We will be learning all about the history of the holiday through non fiction passages, vocabulary, and web quests of articles and videos!
My favorite part of this activity is the pot of gold writing. I can't wait to read their responses! See this entire pack here!
Lastly, I am having my students write why they are lucky on this frame. We have done this for Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day. I will send the pictures of them holding the frame through email! Grab it free HERE!
