Let me share 3 other ways in which you can incorporate fun activities for this book for February into your daily lesson plans!
1. Graphic Organizers
Using graphic organizers are great for any type of books because it gives students a real-life visual of what they are reading. Students are able to put their thoughts on paper in an organized way. Students can use graphic organizers to compare and contrast different characters or practice describing character traits for one specific person.
2. Writing Prompts
These comprehension check cards, along with writing prompts are a great way to get the wheels turning for when students feel stuck. We've all been there when students say “I don't have anything to write about”. These cards can be used for small group stations or whole group depending on your reading block! I always suggest to print on card stock and laminate so that they last longer.
Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch Book Companion
This pack includes flapbooks, writing pages, comprehension activities, and more! This is made to be used with the book as well as help teach about why Kindness is important!
3. Kindness Hearts
Kindness hearts are a great way for students to show encouragement to their peers. Have students pick one friend to write a kindness heart to. You can also pick names so that EVERYONE gets a heart. Place the hearts in a central location for the month so that your students can spread kindness all month long!
EXIT TICKET
Either at the end of the day or end of your book unit, students can complete an exit ticket! This is a GREAT way for your students to put into place real life examples of different ways to spread kindness. You can grab these exit tickets for FREE here!
I truly hope you will add this one to your list of books for February collection! Once students complete all of the activities, they are perfect to use for bulletin boards.

One Sharp Bunch by Ashley Sharp
Who doesn't love Mr. Hatch?! I really like how you tie this book into random acts of kindness and not just Valentine's Day. Very excited to try these activities with my kiddos! Thank you for sharing!

High Style
The manager at these venues suggested we make custom choices and make the menu a little more personalized. The next time you need to hold a conference, have a wedding, or set up a whiskey tasting, think about doing it at this venue.
